Kristen Schlemmer

Bio

Kristen represents individuals, citizen & other public interest groups, and non-profit organizations in Texas state and federal courts. She’s typically hired by plaintiffs interested in conserving Texas’ wildlife and natural spaces and landowners who want to protect their private property rights. She also proudly represents plaintiffs and defendants alike in a range of other related cases, including constitutional litigation and select animal welfare cases. For her work across the state (including jury trials in Houston and San Antonio), Kristen has been named a Texas Rising Star in 2016, 2017, and 2018, an award given out by the Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers publication to 2.5% of attorneys each year.

Before joining Irvine & Conner in 2016, Kristen was a trial lawyer at Susman Godfrey, which repeatedly has been named the nation’s top litigation boutique, and clerked for two federal judges. She received her Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School with high honors in 2010, where she earned an Environmental Law Certificate; won awards for her environmental coursework, writing, and public service; and helped reestablish and then lead Tulane’s chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. Before attending law school, Kristen frequently went to court as the paralegal for a trial lawyer, translated legal reports for human rights organizations in Brazil, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with Linguistics & History degrees. Kristen grew up in the northernmost pocket of Houston in Kingwood, Texas, after spending her early childhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
